Graphic Population Served
GBM serves a broad range of Florida teens and young adults, cross-racial and economic line, academically and sociologically. However, many of the minority teens who attend the GBM Summit, do come from low income neighborhoods and/or single – parent homes.
Client Population Served (SIZE, AGE & GENDER)
Each year, the three-day GBM event has continued to expand to record breaking crowds of an estimated 400 – 350 Florida teens and young adults, ages 12 – 19. Those who participate are generally a mixture of all races and sexes with about a 60/40 ration of female and male attendees. Academically, we have had several participants who have maintained a 4.3 GPA, such as: Chelsea Williams, Petra Greenidge, Indigo Alexis and Tesia Milton. We have also had those who came with a GPA of 2.0 or lower as well as others who were teen offenders but were able to show vast improvement.
Number of Individuals Served
For the past 10 years, GBM has consistently served thousands of teens and young adults. For the past eight years, GBM has witnessed a steady increase in the GBM Summit attendance and the retention rate with an average of 300 – 350 teen summit participants, ages 12 – 19. During the evening community events, however, crowds have reached maximum capacity. The “GBM Teen Idol”, held at Ringling College of Art & Design and “Stomp the Violence”, held at Robert L. Taylor Community Center, are examples of highly attended GBM evening events.
GREATNESS BEYOND MEASURE (GBM)
Teen Summit has a proven 10–year record of successfully empowering hundreds of teens & young adults since its 2008 inception. Astoundingly talented teens, dynamic Hollywood celebrity guests, phenomenal motivational speakers, head-spinning step-teams & dancers, life-changing workshops, mind-blowing poets, 26 GBM scholarships, professional networking and eye-popping messages of empowerment, have kept teens and young adults, parents, the business community and local neighborhoods, educators and entrepreneurs, coming from all across the state, as well as out of state, year after year.
Primarily, GBM focuses on providing young people with invaluable life-skills and lessons, character building, career and education goal–setting and development, as well as, fun activities through it’s three day structure of positive teen activities and interaction.
Leadership Development
GBM’s Leadership Development can best be illustrated through the establishment of the GBM Teen Advisory Council that provides numerous opportunities for teens and young adults to exercise their decision-making power. The GBM Teen Council is a team of Sarasota and Manatee County young adults with creative and innovative ideas. The GBM Teen Council provides innovative and constructive input and feedback in the development and structure of each GBM Teen Summit. The Teen Council works in conjunction with the GBM Adult Council: a diverse pool of skilled and brilliant professionals from Bay area organizations, associations, businesses, fraternities, sororities, clubs, churches, schools, mentoring groups and more.
